We had a hilarious post-conference sigh of relief at the end when I, Jen, Fiona, and Pam Fox (one of the developers of Google Wave, and based in Australia) were joking about sharing a HASTAC cocktail we would call The Wave and Fiona posted our favorite current music video, the amazing “Tightrope” by Janelle Monae, and we all were dancing in our actual spaces, on two continents and four cities, and laughing about it, together, on line using Google Wave.”

Whether or not the following information came from Ryan Wakeman, WARPA, the Gaiming community or Janelle Monáe's journals, Max Stellings and the Palace of the Dogs Archives is inconclusive at this time...What is known or agreed upon is that this information stems from an official entry on The ArchAndroid Crown in the Living Cyktionary, a 28th Century encyclopedia...

The ArchAndroid Crown: Designed by Zoman Ignatius, the half-elf, half-human mystic, reportedly 500 years ago. According to legend, the crown has several magic properties, as well as innovative technologies that can be employed only by The ArchAndroid. Zoman was a consummate inventor, artist and sculptor, a cross between Tesla and Da Vinci, and as such, he designed the crown to be a work of beauty that would embody the very spirit of Metropolis. According to legend, the crown features prominent Metropolis buildings and towers that will light up radiantly when the one and only true ArchAndroid wears the crown. According to the Daily Horos, this opulent headdress was stolen from the vaults in the Black House, reportedly by 1954, in October of 2715. Several members of 1954 were hunted down and executed for this crime. But the crown was never found. Many claim it has been secreted away to the Wonderground. There is also word that in the year 2010, several 1954 operatives have crafted a replica of this historic headdress to be worn by Janelle Monáe in anticipation for her album The ArchAndroid…no word on whether or not this replica has magic properties… The Living Cyktionary, 9th Edition, 2719

Exactly one week ago, The Wondaland Arts Society descended upon New York city to present the museum goers at the downtown Rubin Museum with the first tastes of the soon to be released Emotion Picture The Arch Android. Below is an Arch Article, an amalgam of the many reviews of the Listening Experience that we have collected over the course of the last 7 days.

Magical. Electrifying. A Futuristic Funky Sci-Fi Psychedelic Hiptrip. Thriller 2010! No, these are not the reviews for Disney’s 3-D motion picture, Alice in Wonderland. While I’m sure that they are comparable, I’m describing the sounds and sights of the futuristic funkster, Atlantic Records and the Wonderland Arts Society recording artist, Janelle Monae, and the experience of her forthcoming album, The Archandroid. The Archandroid is a wildly exciting record full of fast paced 808’s, throbbing bass lines, electric guitars and synthesized percussion. Archandroid is simply unlike anything currently in the R&B market, not like anything in the pop market, Janelle Monae’s only present day comparison is to herself. -GrooveVolt

"Janelle is my most artistic signing yet," Diddy said, his image projected on the theatre's screen. "She's not afraid to dream. I'm known for my hype, but her music speaks for itself." The deep beats of "Suite II Overture" then blasted to a film accompiment -- videos of pyramids, boxing matches, trains, and taxis, plus acid-drenched pics of Monae (see above), the clip's co-director -- and in seconds the place was jumpin'. Members of Monae's Wondaland Arts Society crew flailed, shook, mash-potatoed, and straight freaked in the aisles. And for good reason: The ArchAndroid is out-of-this-world funky, from the turbocharged R&B single "Tightrope" to the free-floating jazz guitar and psych bass grooves of "Mushrooms and Roses."

Kenan Thompson, standing outside the venue after the event, wearing sunglasses in the dark, was impressed. "I loved it," he said. "It's high energy… it's wild. - Spin Magazine

A vacation from the expected gallery unveiling, the crowd skeptically eyed tall shadowy figures in mirrored masks that floated around, greeting guests. Portions of the Grammy-nominated singer’s eagerly-awaited debut The ArchAndroid, due May 18, played in the background of a short “Emotion Picture” that the eclectic chanteuse co-directed starring OutKast’s Big Boi, poet Saul Williams, psychedelic dance-punk troupe Of Montreal, and the Wondaland Arch Orchestra. A true testament to her fans’ loyalty, as well as the quality of the music, everyone definitely loosened up and transformed into concertgoers. Shoulder shimmies turned into all-out “shake it like a Polaroid picture” mode within 10 minutes. And if this album moved a crowd of critics out of their seats, we think it just might move the rest of us to click the “Buy” button next to her pretty little pout on iTunes. -Rap-Up.com

We have been getting your emails and your tweets. We have seen your blog entries, tags, and your status messages. You have told us about catching the spirit and running red lights listening to “Many Moons” and walking out of work to the tune of “Letting Go!” We’ve seen your dance recitals and You Tube covers of Sincerely, Jane, and we want to make sure that each and everyone of you know that you have inspired Janelle Monáe and the Wondaland Arts Society to complete Suites II and III. You have no idea how much you have been a part of this process-- in fact we can still hear the screams of support from each and every show that you have been to!

This week the first two singles off of Janelle Monáe’s debut album, The ArchAndroid, will be released on www.Janellemonae.com. The first, “Tightrope,” is going to make you dance all day, and its companion track “Cold War” will be the soundtrack to your self-discovery. [It is suggested that you prepare to cancel all appointments upon the release of this new music. If you can’t get out of your shift that day, go on and make it the official “Take Your Songs to Work Day.”]

You, The Chase, who have always known and always believed in the transformative power of this music, are still our early adopters and ambassadors. We will be looking to you all week to conduct this ArchOrchestra on your subways, in your cars, in your dance studios, on your blogs, and most importantly in your earbuds and earphones (make sure to jam extra hard so that people have to ask you “What are YOU listening to?!?”).

Greetings Friends! Once again, the Wondaland Arts Society, home of Janelle Monáe and Deep Cotton, wants you! We're looking for college students and recent graduates to intern with us. We are seeking applicants who specialize/are interested in business and artist management, accounting, audio engineering, computer programming/coding, marketing, art/graphic design, or journalism and would like to sharpen their craft via hands-on experience working with an up-and-coming record label.

It is preferable that applicants:

Reside in the Atlanta area.
Have a reliable form of transportation
Have a laptop, mobile device with internet, and/or reliable access to a computer with internet
Specialize in/be focused on a particular area of expertise
Be able to dedicate at least 10 to 15 hrs a week to the internship
***Experience with social networking (ie. Facebook, Twitter, Myspace) is not required but a definite plus!

If you think that you or someone you know would be interested in this opportunity, Please submit your resume and a short essay (no more than 2 paragraphs) on who you are, what you do, and why you would be a good addition to the W.A.S. team. Janelle Monae has said she uses her imagination as an escape from a rough childhood, which was marked by her father's addiction to drugs.

Fresh Air from WHYY, June 17, 2009 · Janelle Monae, the singer, songwriter and performer from Kansas City, blends cabaret, soul, funk and rock 'n roll in her music.

Her 2007 debut album Metropolis: The Chase Suite featured a character named Cindi Mayweather, Monae's android alter-ego from the year 2719. "Many Moons," a single off the album, earned the singer a Grammy nomination, and helped Monae catch the ear of Sean "Diddy" Combs, who signed her to his Bad Boy roster and re-released the album.

In 2005, Outkasts's Big Boi included two of her songs on his compilation, Got Purp?, Vol. 2. Monae also performed in Outkast's Idlewild soundtrack.

I wanted to take the time to let you know about my dearest buddies, Chester French. Chester French consists of two uber cool artists, D.A. Wallach and Max Drummey, who met at Harvard University. It was at HU, they formed the band, Chester French and recorded their upcoming album, Love the Future (out APRIL 21st!). They are now signed to The Neptunes recording label, Star Trak.

The guys and I have known one another for a few years now and have always supported each other's work.:)

I consider Chester French one of the most innovative new bands out today as well. They are in fact, one of my favorite bands: Unafraid to try out new sounds, concepts/ideas. Unafraid to help lead a new movement and fight for ART.

To my dearest supporters, it is with great disappointment that I must announce the cancellation of my performance Friday night, April 3rd at the Rialto Theatre in Atlanta.

I have never had to cancel a performance, but unfortunately the cancellation is the result of circumstances beyond my control.

I sincerely apologize to those that planned to attend and support me and the other wonderful artists. It's been a long time since I've performed in Atlanta, and I was looking forward to having fun and giving my supporters a sneak peek of the new tunes from Suites II & III.

Plans are being made to reschedule the performance in the near future. Please stay tuned for details and I look forward to seeing and meeting you then.

Me & No Doubt on tour!

Hey there! It's been a while!

I have been buried deep in Wondaland, finishing Suites II & III! I have also been skydiving, learning to play chess, and swimming in the Black Seal. I have been SO inspired and full of new ideas that I needed to purge them all out! I must say that I am overwhelmed and highly excited about the new tunes! Can't wait to share the new art with you! It takes me to so many places.:)

As well, I will be on tour with No Doubt this Summer! I have always been a big No Doubt supporter, so I am thankful that I was asked to play alongside such an amazing band! Really cool artists like Bedouin Sound Clash, The Sounds, and Paramore will also be on the tour! Can't wait to meet them all!:)

The Monáe's and I will be playing new tunes! Can't wait to create magic and pop like a jumping firecracker!

There has been a Rock in Wondaland that has been host to concerts, colloquies, and cookouts. But never before has it been visited by the Imagination of one Mr. Chad Weatherford. Known to bend time, lines, and color with a Wacom Graphics Tablet, Chad was caught yesterday, in between scribbles, taking a walk around the rock.

I asked him, "What are you doing?"
His gaze turned towards the Rock, "Can you see the dinosaur? See, right here is the head and a sort of prehistoric beak and his wings are over here."

Now as a child, I would lay in the grass and look up at the sky and see puppy dogs and ice cream cones. But I have never played this game with a Rock before.

Twestival takes place tonight at the Auburn Saloon.

Calgary will be one of more than 180 cities across the world today that hosts the inaugural Twestival, a global gathering of users on the social networking site Twitter who wish to meet their digital friends in person. A number of Calgary Twitter users will be meeting at the Auburn Saloon at 7 p.m., and will assist a global charity aimed at helping the developing world.

Twitter is the third-most popular social networking site on the Internet, after Facebook and MySpace, and boasts nearly six-million users. The inaugural Twestival was organized a mere three weeks ago online, and is being done through the help of thousands of volunteers around the world.

"We're already blown away by the global reception and how keen people are to invest their time and energy for free," said Amanda Rose, one of Twestival's London-based organizers. "Social tweet ups like this are a great way to meet those faces behind the avatars while raising a lot of money for a fantastic cause."

Today's event isn't just about meeting up off-line, it's also a means to raise funds and awareness for Charity:Water, a not-for-profit organization that aims to bring clean, safe drinking water to communities in the developing world. Currently, one in six people on the planet don't have access to clean drinking water, and this lack of basic sanitation causes 80 per cent of all the world's sickness and disease, annually killing more people than all forms of violence, including war. Drilling a freshwater well can cost between $4,000 and $12,000, and even with their money combined, people living on less than $1 a day cannot afford one. Charity:Water, is trying to raise near $1 million with today's global event to begin construction of freshwater wells in the developing world.

The Calgary portion of Twestival features a social media panel with a number of guest speakers, as well as live music from local acts. There will also be a silent auction of items as well as a live raffle.

The idea of collaborating on an international level via a string of local communities could have a spectacular impact, organizers believe.

"Our goal, between the event in Edmonton and Calgary, is to raise close to $4,000, so we can combine our efforts and build a well in a developing country," said Roger Kondrat, the organizer of Calgary's Twestival. "And so while we expect a lot of Twitter users to come down, we'd like to invite others to visit us on Calgary. Twestival.com tomake a small donation."

Dear Malia and Sasha,

I know that you've both had a lot of fun these last two years on the campaign trail, going to picnics and parades and state fairs, eating all sorts of junk food your mother and I probably shouldn't have let you have. But I also know that it hasn't always been easy for you and Mom, and that as excited as you both are about that new puppy, it doesn't make up for all the time we've been apart. I know how much I've missed these past two years, and today I want to tell you a little more about why I decided to take our family on this journey.

When I was a young man, I thought life was all about me-about how I'd make my way in the world, become successful, and get the things I want. But then the two of you came into my world with all your curiosity and mischief and those smiles that never fail to fill my heart and light up my day. That was the lesson your grandmother tried to teach me when I was your age, reading me the opening lines of the Declaration of Independence and telling me about the men and women who marched for equality because they believed those words put to paper two centuries ago should mean something.

She helped me understand that America is great not because it is perfect but because it can always be made better-and that the unfinished work of perfecting our union falls to each of us. It's a charge we pass on to our children, coming closer with each new generation to what we know America should be.

Hey!

I just wanted to show you my first/new holiday commercial with GAP.;) Jon Heder ("Napoleon Dynamite" movie) was a blast to work with! Of course it took a lot for me not to laugh at his antics! He is a wonderfully wild guy.:) We had a lot fun filming this!

I always thought GAP was a pretty cool company growing up--especially during the holidays when they'd premiere some of there CLASSIC sweaters.;) Glad to see em' back! After reading their Social Responsibility Report, (http://www.gapinc.com/public/SocialResponsibility/socialres.shtml), that helped influence my decision on getting involved in the campaign.;)

Everyone over at GAP was amazingly hospitable to me! They made sure I was comfortable all around;) Thank you guys!

I went to check out his band "Of Montreal" @ Tabernacle (Atlanta) last
Saturday and my mind was blown...

What got me: I had seen a pic of Kevin in NY at his show riding a
white stallion. How sick?! I rared a white stallion in the short film,
Many Moons, and knew he and I spoke similar language and we needed to
meet.

Ok, so JM has been doing some dates opening for Jamie Lidell during his current North American tour.

He's a supremely talented musician and all around great guy. So I figured I'd put you guys on to some of his music in case you don't know about him.

Ok, so I'm a little late on this next band, but a good friend has been trying to tell me about them for a minute. They're Little Dragon and they're from Sweden. Their debut album came out in August 2007, but I just bought it off of iTunes a couple of days ago. It's that fie. Their videos are quite funky and artistically done. Thanks Mac!

Finally, there are two albums I'm really looking forward to that are dropping over the next month or so. Of Montreal (out of Athens, GA) my favorite Indie Rock/Pop band is releasing their new album Skeletal Lamping on Oct 21. Their last 2 albums "Sunlandic Twins" and "Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?" are personal favorites of mine. Then there's T-Pain. Thr33 Rings. Coming next month (The 11th I think.) I really liked his last album and I like the singles he's put out so far. Don't really understand the hate he gets. In my opinion, as an artist/producer/writer, he's brilliant. Maybe his subject matter is a little too base or ghetto/hood for some, but I think it's fun. If he had more abstract or "different" subject matter, folks would be mentioning him along with the Pharrells and Cee-los of the world. All music can't and shouldn't occupy the same space or serve the same purpose. His $#!+'s jammin'. I would tell you to Youtube him, but you already know his songs! Aheehahhee!

The First Tour

So Janelle Monáe and a few members of the W.A.S. embarked on the very first promo tour in support of Metropolis: The Chase Suite (Special Edition). It was a very eye-opening experience, and a lot of hard work!

The two-week stretch began in San Diego with a show at the House of Blues. Lord Rico, Janelle Monáe, and Nate Wonder were all sick as dogs, so things were a little difficult at first.

Anyway, we were only in San Diego for a few hours. After the show we went back to the hotel, slept a few hours, then piled in an SUV headed to L.A.

L.A.

8/16: Here we are at our hotel on Highland. Nate says it's a "Motel" since the hallways are outdoors. Here we're trying to figure out what we're gonna eat, which was a constant thing. Seemed like every 2 hours somebody was hungry. *cough*Nate*cough*

8/17: JM opened for Raphael Saadiq at the Roxy in L.A! We did two more shows with him as well (SF & NY). Our homegirls (and Chase members) Akua and Danielle helped us out at the Merch table.

Ummm... Later that night.... We had a once in a lifetime experience... We went to this guys house, right? And he had a band there... And he performed the songs on this set list for us... Man we partied til' the sun came up.... like it was 1999. We couldn't believe it! I guess it's just a "Sign of The Times"

8/18: Amoeba Records In-Store performance. I love the Indie Record Stores. Not many like these left.

8/19: We went to Blue microphone just outside of L.A. to test out some of the different studio mics (www.bluemic.com). Lord Rico in the back adding that Puerto Rican flayverrr! aheheaheaheah!... Later that night JM performed at the Viper Room in L.A. The guy who invited us to his home came out after the show...In his sick 2-door Cadillac sports car (Not a little red corvette!)

8/19 After the show: The work doesn't end! We had to book studio time to work on the sound design for the Many Moons video with director Alan Ferguson (it's almost done...I promise!) We were in the famous Capitol Records studio! A lot of history in that building. (Nat King Cole, Old Blue Eyes, The Beatles, Beach Boys)...Wow!

(The road to) SAN FRANCISCO:

8/20: I'd never seen wind generator up close before. It looked like something out of a sci-fi movie to me.

8/20: Rasputin Records in-store (Berkeley)

8/20: Opening for Raphael Saadiq at Bimbo's in San Francisco. Then, afterwards at the Hotel Metropolis.

PORTLAND, OREGON

8/22: After a 10 hour drive from San Fran to Portland the day before, we sat down for a family dinner at Doug Fir (where JM also performed earlier that night).

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON

8/23: Seattle, Washington (Kellindo's city man!)

1. Upon arriving at sound check, we saw berries growing on the fence at the venue (they were delicious. Nate and I had our fill) Only eat the dark ones!
2. In-store at easy street records.
3. Space needle (tourist moment)
4. JM rocking the crowd at Nectar later that night.

WASHINGTON, DC (ARLINGTON, VA)

8/26: Washington, DC (Arlington, VA) J. Money signs autographs for some supporters (father and son who came out to see her) after the show at IOTA Cafe (Who, by the way, had the FIE french fries!)

NEW YORK, NY (8/27)

8/27: (Kellindo's birthday!) Backstage before the show, Janelle paints Kellindo's nails, George 2.0 in a pseudo-candid shot, "the band's here:" Young Pete (Young Work!) and Kellindo (Pucker), JM puts some fuel in the tank before hitting the stage.

We got a couple ours of sleep at a funky little hotel called the Gershwin before flying off to Denver and Atlanta.

The first tour was a great experience overall. A lot of bonding, joking, meeting new folks, and a hell of a lot of shows! Everyone seemed to really be inspired by what JM and the W.A.S. are trying to do! Thanks to everyone who came out and showed their support! Now it's back home to the studio to finish Suite II and III!

Sorry so late. It took me a while to put this together.

At the Democratic National Convention. Words can not equate to what I
genuinely felt in a stadium with over 80,000 people waiting on change.

I am convinced, Barack Obama is an "alien from outer space". How can
someone in front of over 80,000 people with the whole world watching
them look so unphased and calm? How is this possible?

On the same date, 45 years later, Dr. MLK Jr. does the legendary, "I
Have A Dream" speech, this historic moment took place.

Greetings friends.

We visited a few of the Indie Record stores in the "A." Here's the Sound Shop in The Mall West End. The manager, Desiree, is extremely cool.
